Installation: Julie Orr Revisited

Julie Orr‘s work is sexy, fun, lively, and colorful with a dose of “bling” tossed in. I have written about her work before. Julie Orr’s work deals with the wasteful and disposable culture we live in. Use it once and toss it out… even friends on Facebook can be tossed aside and so on…

When I entered this gallery, I was taken by the minimal use of supplies doing maximum work towards making the gallery feel well, beautiful. There is not a lot going on, and there is a lot going on simultaneously.

Normally, neon colors and changing lights make me want to move on – and toss away the images imprinted on my retina – because I get overwhelmed and overstimulated with too much color and too much sound and light. For example, I walk as fast as I can through a Los Vegas casino or an arcade.

With Orr’s work many of the same elements of casinos are used. Yet, I stayed a while and returned when I could. Each time seeing details that I photographed here for you.

I am loving the purple and magenta cast shadows.
