Decent/Indecent Proposition: A Collective Look at Installation was on view from November 26 thru December 14, 2012 at Claremont Graduate University. I have never been a part of an art show like this one, nor have I ever seen an art show like this one. Until now.
Think: touchable and moveable artwork.
All the art (with a few exceptions) was executed on wheels and built sturdy enough so that the pieces could be moved around. Literally moved from gallery to gallery. The two available galleries were labeled. One was labeled “Decent” and the other was “Indecent.”
For the show reception and the show duration visitors were encouraged to move the art pieces into position in either gallery. Making the show interactive. Interpretations varied. Some of the art appeared only during the reception, on wheels.
Below are photographs of a few of the pieces that were on display. Would you have dared to touch the art? Is it OK to touch art in a gallery setting? Why or why not?
