In 1950, Jackson Pollock proclaimed: “New needs new techniques. And the modern artists have found new ways and new means of making their statements. Each age finds its own technique.”
As a curator and an artist I believe this statement is true and important. The changes in technique, mediums and the ever advancing of the technological age provide us with insurmountable information, new and tangible techniques and crisp new eyes to view the work, whether it is via the Internet or in person.
My focus as a curator is to bend the rules a little bit and create a venue for new emerging artists that work with contemporary themes but don’t always work in the traditional techniques or with traditional mediums.
Suzanne Gibbs is definitely one of these artists that don’t always do things by the book as seen in this show “Blemish, finding beauty and peace in upset and discomfort.”
Thank you for your support.
